The priority date checker

A priority date is personal information. The comparison runs in the browser against data already contained in the page. No date, category, or country is transmitted or logged, and the site has no server able to receive one.

Remembering a date on this device

Ticking Remember this on this device writes the category, country, and date into this browser’s local storage, under the key rn.priority-date.v1, so the site can show them at the top of every page on a later visit.

It stays on the device. It is never sent anywhere, it can be read only by this site in this browser, and it is not used to identify anyone across visits or sites. The box is off unless it is ticked, and nothing is written before then. On a shared or public computer, leave it unticked.

Nothing is stored on this device at the moment. Once something is, it can be removed from the bar at the top of the page, from a button that appears here, or by clearing site data in the browser.

What the site itself stores

There are no accounts, login or comments, and no analytics of this site’s own. The host, Cloudflare, runs Web Analytics on the zone: a cookieless beacon that records page views and basic request data without setting a cookie or building an identifier that follows a reader to other sites. Nothing entered in the priority date checker is transmitted. If a date is remembered, it is stored only in this browser. Hosting and advertising providers can separately process request and device data as described below.

Email

The addresses on the contact page are ordinary email. Anything sent to them arrives in an inbox and stays there until it is deleted, like any other message. That is why the contact page asks people not to send personal details: none are needed to correct a published figure.

Advertising

This site uses Google AdSense. As a consequence of ad serving, Google and its partners may place and read cookies, or use web beacons, IP addresses and other identifiers to collect, share and use data under their own policies.

Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a visitor’s prior visits to this site or to other sites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to visitors based on those visits.

Personalized advertising requires consent in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, and Google collects it through its own certified consent message. Until that message is in place for this site, no personalized advertising is served to visitors there. The choice is theirs to make and to change, and it is separate from the priority date checker.

Personalized advertising can be switched off at any time: at Google Ads Settings for Google, and at aboutads.info/choices for many other vendors. Switching it off does not remove advertising. It stops prior visits being used to decide which ads are shown.

Readers covered by a United States state privacy law use those same controls. This site itself sells no personal information and shares none for cross-context behavioral advertising, because it collects none that it could sell.

Nothing about advertising is connected to the priority date described above. That stays in this browser and is never shared with Google or anyone else.

Ad networks other than Google may also serve ads here through AdSense. Google publishes the list of them, and explains how it uses information from sites that use its services.

Hosting

The site is served as static files. The hosting provider may keep standard request logs such as IP address and requested path in order to deliver the site and defend it against abuse. That data is handled by the provider rather than collected here.
